For my Creative Media Sectors Assignment I have been asked to research the different types of Media Industries from Television to Radio to Photography and Advertising and Marketing. For my first task I have to research the structure, size and shape of each of them in detail and cover them in references and illustrated examples.
Task One:
Describe the structure of the Creative Media Sectors with detail – Include references and illustrated examples:
Using the internet carry out research into the following sectors
Ø Television
Ø Radio
Ø Publishing
Ø Film
Ø Interactive media
Ø Computer games
Ø Photography Photo imaging
Ø Advertising and marketing
Ø Animation
- In your research find information about the size, shape and structure of each sector
- Using text and images produce a section on your blog explaining each of the creative media industries
Television Industry:
The television industry is made from moving images and produces sound. Over the year's the television has become much more efficient as they have produced colour televisions than just Black and White. (Wikipedia. (2015). Television, Available: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television. Last Accessed: 15/1/15 ). As the television industry is one of the largest companies it is worth around £259,000 alongside three other of the largest media industries for example; Radio, Photography and Film. The reason why the television industry is worth that much is because with you having to pay a television tax and also with all the job roles that go into running the television industry such as; directing, producing, managing and make-up designing. (BBC. (2015). Record high for the uks creative industries. Available: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-30799680. Last accessed 15/1/15.) In the United Kingdom the Television Industries employment rate employs 50,000 employees. From my opinion I think that they employ so many people is because they is a lot of job roles such as people to do make-up, host some of the famous television shows and also to direct the shows that are going to be put on. (CI UK to the world (2015) Creative skillset censes 2012. Available: http://www.thecreativeindustries.co.uk/uk-creative-overview/facts-anfigures/employment-figures. Last assessed: 15/1/15).
Radio Industry:
In the radio industry they use broadcasting studios to connect with their target audiences. They use the broadcasting studios to speak about many different subjects such as sport, the news because they know people like listening to them type of stations and also with the music studios such as; Capital FM and Heart. However the radio industry has a more easier and healthier way to connecting with their target audiences. Why I say this is because for example when it comes to watching the television it can eventually damage your eye sight if you where to watch it every minute of the day or even sitting closer to the television especially the younger people from 12-. With the radio industry being one of the largest industries in media alongside the Television, photography and film it is worth £259,000. This is because people tend to look closer in them industries as they are much more popular than others such as Advertising and Marketing and animation which aren’t as popular. (BBC. (2015). Record high for the uks creative industries. Available: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-30799680. Last accessed 15/1/15 .) Also when it comes to the employment in the radio industry they don’t employ as much people than in the various bigger industries such as television because they isn’t as much jobs. They employ around 17,700 which are spreaded around each job role in the industry. For example: Editor, Broadcaster. (CI UK to the world (2015) Creative skillset censes 2012. Available: http://www.thecreativeindustries.co.uk/uk-creative-overview/facts-anfigures/employment-figures. Last assessed: 15/1/15 . )
Publishing Industry:
The publishing industry is simply receiving novels from many writers and turning them into books which they will eventually sell in stores. In the
Film Industry:
In the filming industry it is all about pre and pro production. From pre production it is all the panning and development that will go into the film your wanting to achieve and pro production is the final project which you will then send it off into the cinemas and then in shop where the film will be sold. In filming they can be more then one genre (different kinds of films.) For example fast and Furious is an action movie which is different to Star Wars which is more of a Sicence-Ficton film. In the United Kingdom the filming industry is worth £259,000 which is the same then some of the other largest and popular industries such as Photography, Television, and Radio. (BBC. (2015). Record high for the uks creative industries. Available: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-30799680. Last accessed 15/1/15 .)The filming industry employs around 20,050 people, which is divided into many different film job roles, for example from a director to a producer and a costume designer. (CI UK to the world (2015). Creative skillset employment censes 2012. Available http://www.thecreactiveindustries.co.uk/uk-creative-overview/facts-and-figures/employment-figures. Last accessed 15/1/15 .)
Interactive Media:
The Interactive Media industry is all to do with the different types of social networking sites that lets you to interactive with people for example your friends and strangers and social working sites such as Face book and Twitter. In the United Kingdom the interactive media industry is worth around several million pounds. The industry is worth that much because with all the work that is put into it. (Sorry for the amount of information on how much the industry is worth as that was all what was there to tell me.) (University of Westminster (Sept 2015). Applied sound of interactive media MA. Available: http://www.westminister.au.uk/cources/full-time/p09fpasm-applied-sound-for-interactive-media-ma. Last accessed 15/1/15 . In the interactive media they employ around 53,000 employees with electronic games and also off-line multimedia. This is from 9,400 and 9,800 people also. (Interactive media designer Available: http://www.Inputyouth.co.uk)
Computer Games:
The computer gaming industry designs and creates well known gaming consoles and console games. During the process if they where to create a game for example instead of taking plagiarised SFX (Sound Effects) they would create their own even its from cardboard. The industries worth as much as £1.72billion in the
Photography Photo Imaging:
The photography and photo imaging industry take non moving images using very expensive and professional equipment such as a photography camera and profession imaging software’s. For example photo shot to make the photo much more appealing then it original image. The photography photo imaging industry is worth £259,000 making it one of the biggest media industries in media along side Television, Radio and Film. The industry is lacteally worth that much because different people setting up their own photography job and also people getting involve in doing their own work in photography that they actually want to be a professional photographer when they grow up for example teenagers/young adults. (BBC. (2015). Record high for the uks creative industries. Available: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-30799680. Last accessed
Advertising and Marketing:
As it says in its name Advertising and marketing is a industry that markets and advertises different product etc. on the other media sector for example photography, television and radio to try get people to buy it. For a example if they where to advertise a L’Oreal product it would capture the eyes of women because on the advert they use a female washing herself in it and also with the women being in her early 20s or 30s it will also be targeted at that age type then a female over the age of 60. Also to get more attention they would use slogans and advertisement that will prove that the product works. The advertisement and marketing industry is worth £482,000 which makes the largest industry out of the media sectors. Why the industry is worth so much is because each of the job roles have a big part in coming up with ideas that what the advertisement should be and also how they can market. (Record high for the uks creative industries Available: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-30799680. Last accessed: 15/1/15 . Finally with the employment rate in the advertising and marketing industry they employ around 94,000 people which is spreaded into different advertising and marketing job roles such as; A advertising Media Planner.
Animation industry
The animation industry uses modelling clay, paper or stop motion images to create classic animations such as Wallace and Grommet and Toy Story Squeal Within the pre production process it could take up to 2 years to be complete because when it comes to moving the animations they take a photo then have to move the animation a little bit on to capture another shot and also they have to keep changing the characters emotions on their faces. For the estimate rate of which the animation industry is worth it is worth around £200bm. I gathered this information at (Richard Wray. (2010). UK animators call for tax breaks/Breaks/The Guardian. Available: http://www.theguardian.com/business/2010/may/30/animaton-industry-tax-breaks. Last accessed 15/1/15. However for the employment rates in the United Kingdoms animation industry isn’t as much as the other media industry such as Advertising and Marketing industry as they only employ 4600 employees. The reason why they don’t employ as much people than in the other media sectors is because they is only a few job that are in the pre production stages from creation the characters and finding the right vocals for them and in the pro production Advertising and Marketing the animation in the end. (CI UK to the world (2015). Creative skillset employment censes 2012. Available http://www.thecreactiveindustries.co.uk/uk-creative-overview/facts-and-figures/employment-figures. Last accessed 15/1/15 .)
